An Astro & Landscape Backcountry Workshop

~Sacred Lands~

A 4 Night, 5 Day backcountry 4x4 adventure in the heart of the Southwest!

Mission & Agenda

Northern Arizona, just south of the Utah border boasts countless incredible natural wonders of geology, erosion, and simply indescribable landscapes. The culmination of these and epic conditions make this part of the desert one of my personal favorites to simply spend time. It's packed with amazing places some of which only accessible by 4x4 and a Navajo guide. We will visit some locations few outsiders have gotten to experience. From Page to Kanab and some of the most amazing overlooks and landscapes you'll ever see. We will visit simply jaw dropping destinations and camp nearby for a true Wild Light experience. Able to capture the locations by night is a wonderful luxury! Pictured are just some of the locations we could visit! This will truly be an epic adventure like never before!

Since we will be camping and a 4x4 vehicle is required, what better way than to rent an overland vehicle! You can sleep on or in them, but if you prefer old school camping, you can do that too! You can rent an overloading or suitable 4x4 vehicle from places like Outdoorsy.com, Turo.com, ColoradoOverlander.com (services the SW), or Southwestoverlander.com. Which I recommend over Enterprise or the like. Las Vegas is the nearest International airport and there are plenty of options for vehicles there as well as St. George, or maybe even Kanab!  Due to the limited size of the groups I do not qualify for discounted rates but the daily rental is comparable to that of a hotel room.

Itinerary

•1 Week ahead of the event we will have a "Pre-Workshop" Zoom class to discuss finalities, concepts, Compositions, Ideas, techniques and to get you familiar with the type of images we will be working on!

Evening Day 1: We will begin this trip on Monday, March 24th at 1pm at a (TBD) meeting location. We will gather for a briefing, chat a bit and strategize for the first evenings shooting, and the adventure of accessing this amazing place! This crash course approach lets me gauge your varying skill and level of understanding of photography principals and fundamentals. We will capture sunset, blue hour, and twilight.

Day 2, 3 & 4: Entirely spent in the field, with shooting excursions, camp meals, critiques, and coaching when not moving to the next destination!

Morning Day 5: The Final Sunrise, then we head out! Hopefully a final group meal in Page or Kanab!

•We will have a "Post-Workshop" Zoom class to work on image critiques, post processing and more to be scheduled during the workshop.
